Characters

Character pages will be coming soon, for quick reference and just the pure fun of it.

Current Characters

Castle Carrick Staff:
  1. Laryna - the healer Matron
  2. Headmaster - Professor Artair Guirmean
  3. Headmistress - Professor Belara Macleomhann - Kirsty's aunt
  4. "The Director" Elphen (choir/charms master)
  5. Potionsmaster - Erebus Rok Sevrin
  6. Defense professor - Hemming Gerwulf. A werewolf, but a regular one and not technically one of The Huntsman's Hounds.
  7. Groundskeeper - Dunstan Ainsley
  8. Divinations professor - Esmarelda Zeldathin
  9. Lady Bloomsworth - Door guardian of Leomaris
  10. Leomhann - Door guardian of Leomaris
  11. Librarian - Ms. Tabitha Hortense

Students:
  1. Kirsty Makay (AKA Seaswimmer)
  2. David Valnarius - A future potions master. His werewolf blood is hereditary, and he is one of The Huntsman's (also known by various other monikers) Hounds.
  3. Allison/Ally McNamara
  4. Diana Demeter
  5. Nevin Buckley (Leomaris)
  6. Thomas Harper (Leomaris)
  7. Morvan Lilitu (Spirialis)
  8. Morgana Maldein (Spiralis)
  9. Floyd Creighton (Leomaris)
  10. Ingrid Stone (Leomaris)
  11. Devin Gale (Bertramus)
  12. Enid Delaney (Bertramus)
  13. Bartholomew Brown (Leomaris)
  14. Darcy Green (Leomaris) (male)
  15. Corriander Comely (Bertramus)
  16. Stanley Wookey (Bertramus). No...the last name is not a nod to one of my backers, at least not directly. Look up Wookey Hole though. Rowan Wookey told me a bit about that place a long while back, so I'm wanting to tie in with the Witch of Wookey Hole with this character.

Other Adults:
  1. Urma - David's dragon friend
  2. Finnol Makay - Kirsty's father.
  3. Etain Makay - Kirsty's mother. A water witch, water priestess, selkie descendent, and a member of the Order.
  4. Andrew Andersen

  5. Byron
  6. Marc (Marcus)
  7. Nightfish
  8. Carin (Nightfish's friend, a hunter)
  9. Selkie Elders of the Loch: Herbalist Elder, Granmere
  10. Olan (a distant cousin of Kirsty from the sea, not fully trusted by her)
  11. Connor (a distant cousin of Kirsty from the sea, not fully trusted by her)
  12. Mani
  13. Merisson - Triton prince/king
  14. 3 selkies of the fishery
  15. Mrs. Kitsch

"Inanimate" Characters:
  1. The Sea Witch (Etain's craft)
  2. The Corsantoir (Finnol's craft)
  3. Marsali (Makay) - Ancestress to the selkie Makay family (in this, they are distantly related to the MacKays. As a selkie before her skin was stolen, she had a very wide range that she migrated. She learned to talk many languages, and most often swam between Germany, Scandinavia, Scotlands, and Ireland's shores. She made the "mistake" of rescuing an Irish fisherman. Mara gave him her blessing after Marsali fell in love (while skinless) with him and he proved his devotion to the goddess. Currently her essence resides in a portrait of her painted by Byron before he was bound to his natural form.
  4. Silent Lady - a Castle Ghost, particularly likes potions and intelligence
  5. Reaper - Mr. Ainsley's animate flying riding lawnmower. A riding lawnmower with flashing headlamps would also be a lot scarier to wayward hooligans than a push lawnmower. This strange thing will likely have quite a bit about itself that won't be in the actual story, such as liking to prowl the grounds after hours.
  6. Kara - living portrait, is in the Makay vault as guardian, and a second in the defense office

Deities and Spirits:
Please note that creative license is taken, combining actual deities from folklore with stuff purely from my own head for the story. You are encouraged to research and learn more about the inspirations behind these, and in the case of the creative ones guess as to which deities inspired them.
  1. Lady of the Well - May or may not be an aspect of the Lady of the Lake (or vice verse). If so, it is not something that she flaunts. She is Mara's sister goddess.
  2. Mara - A sea goddess, in this story she has many aspects. She is the goddess of the bitter sea, sharks, and a mother to the selkie race, and very specifically to the branch that spawned the Makay family.
  3. Herne (God of the Hunt, The Huntsman, The Hooded One (an honorific shared with the Cailleach), Cernnunos/Kernunnos, and others). The hunt and shapeshifting fall in his special interest. This picture represents him in my mind very well, and I am linking it to both show an example of how he appears in my mind as well as to promote this artist's work.
  4. The Moon Deity (AKA The White Lady,  Ven'thrith)
  5. Cerridwen
  6. Cailleach - An Irish/Scottish Goddess of disease and plague to some. Others count her as The Washer Woman and/or Banshee. The Cailleach is also part of the Maiden/Mother/Crone trinity of Goddesses. There are actually several goddesses that fill this role, and several goddess trinities in Celtic mythology. Monstrous dogs are said to guard the gates to her underworld realm (the land of Death). In this story I hope to have the chance to capture more than one side of her in her brief appearances. As one might expect, in this the nameless Things will be her "children" in much the same way as the various types of merfolk are Mara's.
  7. Gyre spirit - Not quite a deity, but included here for ease.
  8. Astereth - Whether he is a deity, spirit, or spirit of a human is up for debate.

Other:
  1. Meri - Castle Gremlin (is both male and female, whichever it feels like at the time)
  2. Shell (Nightfish's daughter)
  3. Banu (Mani's son)
  4. Imp (Kirsty's familiar)
  5. Mysterious mangy smelly stray dog
  6. The Things - Some are children of the Cailleach. Others however are defecting to pretend to serve corrupted wizardfolk. Yet others, the worst of them, are defecting to stand with the Fire in another world, and their master...Azeroth. Those will be touched on in Selkies' Skins...but I have been meaning to deal with these in The Shadow Chronicles since I was twelve (back in 1992) with the power struggle between the Lightcasters, the Shadows, and the Fire over Terrah.
  7. Jonathin/Justin Makay (lost family, eldest brother of Kirsty, taken by Finmen as a babe)

Some Members of The Order
  1. The Andersens
  2. Etain Makay
  3. Finnol Makay
  4. Belara MacLeomhann
  5. The Merrows
  6. Hyacinth

In other upcoming episodes or the supplemental shorts:
  1. Michael Makay (deceased family, brought back by David when he gives blood to reanimate from a bone, after Kirsty kills sea unicorn in Herne's quest)
  2. The representatives of the Examining Lintel (Spiralis, Bertramus, and Leomaris)

Be watching for additional information on these characters, as they will each receive a page of their own. When a new information update is made, it will be logged on the "Most Recent" page.
