The final installment of Chapter Twenty Four (To Artenhame) of Selkies' Skins is available to read for free. Kirsty and Morvan find themselves arriving at Artenhame with the school heads so that the Godtouched can do their business...and complete some of their live training. At Castle Carrick, the Mythological Society is quite a bit more than folktales!

I've found an old selkie tale where all that was used to turn to a seal was breath, and the human "guest" was turned in the same manner. This one surprised me a bit.

The version I found was called The Seal Killer (or was it the Seal Hunter...I don't want to turn on the Nook to check). A man was supporting his family by killing seals and selling their fur. One day he tried to kill one but it got away with his knife still stuck in its flank. The man later has a visitor insisting he come because his laird wanted a bunch of skins pronto. He's put on a horse with this strange rider (I think its a waterhorse, but its not described) and is carried extremely fast to the sea. They dismount and the rider pulls himself and the seal hunter into the sea, changing them both to seals on the way down from the cliff, using his breath. While down there, he's shown the knife, which he claims as his. He's then asked to heal the injured seal (who is the rider's father) by a laying on of hands sort of thing. Then the man has to promise to never kill seals again. He's rewarded well enough not to ever need to go back to his old ways, but it's implied that if he goes back on his word something bad will happen.

I found this in the collection of European Fairytales that is available on Nook and Kindle, in the Scottish section.

Good news: The third installment for chapter 24 of Selkies' Skins can now be perused.

Bad news: My editor had a housefire. She's ok, family is ok, but she's lost almost all her clothes. I intend to visit tomorrow and see what all she needs, if anyone else needs anything and help out with what I can find for them. Without internet and phone that puts a crimp in things, and with this extra stress on her (which will impact her health) I'm expecting longer before she can go through what will be the print and ebook edition.

I wouldn't have known till later, except my daughter went up to visit Faith and her family while she and her brother were over to that town to visit their father.

Even with company and getting those files fixed I have managed to upload the latest installment of Selkies' Skins. Please enjoy this installment.

It has been a busy busy day for me. I got the edits for Marantha Jenelle's "Homeward Bound" uploaded to both Lulu and Createspace. That means that now ALL editions will be correct once Amazon finishes the processing for the Createspace... so within the next couple days. This is why I prefer to be the one uploading files once they have gone all the way through the proofing and revision process, but I can also understand why she was so keen to get those out on her account. Now to get through the rounds for Impossible Love and Irony... and she's working on another short too.

Got the files done, and then it was time to leave to get my boy. Then as soon as I picked up my son from his father's house and came home... lo and behold... along came company.

I have GOT to make a schedule so that I can keep MY writing time, editing time for others, and DH from competing. Dragon Hearts is SUPPOSED to be in my mornings a few hours a week, but things keep happening.
